Dr. John W. Miller Jr. will become dean of the Raymond A. Kent School of Social Work and Family Sciences at the University of Louisville, effective July 1, pending board approval.
Miller is dean of curriculum and senior diversity officer at St. Norbert College.
“The Kent School has a rich tradition of producing exceptional research and specialized practice and teaching,” Miller said. “I look forward to serving the Kent School in preparing the next generation of social work and family science leaders.”
Miller’s diversity research includes issues such as the relationship between racism and adverse childhood experiences of African Americans.
In 2017, he wrote the textbook, “African American Perspectives: Issues for Social Work Practice.” That same year, Miller was voted Arkansas Social Worker of the Year by the Arkansas chapter of the National Association of Social Workers.
He received his Ph.D. in social work from the University of Tennessee and a master’s degree in social work and a bachelor’s degree in experimental psychology from the University of South Carolina.
