Dr. Javier Cevallos was recently named president of the American Academic Leadership Institute (AALI).
Cevallos is currently president of the Harvard Graduate School of Education. He was previously president of Framingham State University, president of Kutztown University; and Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs at the University of Massachusetts; Chair of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at UMass; and faculty advisor to the provost at UMass.

Javier Cevallos has been appointed to this important leadership role,” said Dr. Mildred García, President and CEO of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). “As a former university president and former AASCU board chair, Javier is a champion of higher education who has dedicated his career not only to student success, but also to empowering the many diverse leaders in higher education who serve those students. We look forward to continued collaboration on signature programs including the Becoming a Provost Academy and the Executive Leadership Academy.”
Cevallos has also been a commissioner for the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) and a board member of a number of organizations, including the AASCU Board, the Millennium Leadership Initiative Council, the NCAA DII and DIII Presidents’ Council, the Climate Leadership Steering Committee. Second Nature Board, Council for Higher Education Accreditation Board and Campus Compact Board.
Cevallos holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Puerto Rico in Mayagüez; M.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) as well as a Ph.D. from UIUC.
